Honda Accord Sedan Accolades

In 2008, Yahoo! created a brand-new award to recognize the number-one car on Yahoo! Autos. The criteria were user interest, intent and satisfaction, and the winner was the Honda Accord Sedan. Yahoo! noted that "[w]hile the head-turning styling and spirited performance appeal to the senses, other amenities of the Accord Sedan address rational concerns. Besides Honda's emphasis on great efficiency, the Accord boasts numerous standard safety features, including electronic stability control, six airbags and anti-lock brakes."
In its January 1983 issue, Car and Driver chose the Accord to be on their first-ever 10Best Cars list. In their article, they called the Accord, "a remarkable automobile from a remarkable automobile… company."* In their January 2009 issue, Car and Driver said, "it’s clear; 27 years later, that praise still applies." They call the Accord a "mainstream pacesetter… [with] crisp responses and exacting path accuracy that have always made Accords so satisfying to drive." Twenty-three 10Best awards in 27 years—only the amazing Accord.

Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com has honored Honda with its 2009 Best Resale Value Award in the Brand category. This means that across its entire line of vehicles, Honda has the best projected resale value. Individual Honda models—the Odyssey, CR-V, Fit and the entire Civic family—also won this prestigious award in separate categories.

Projected resale value is specific to the 2009 model year. For more information, go to Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. Kelley Blue Book is a registered trademark of Kelley Blue Book Co., Inc.
Winner in the Sedan category for vehicles $25,000 to $30,000, the 2008 Accord takes “Best in Class” with V-6 performance, fuel-saving* engine technology and a longer interior cabin. This redesigned over achiever is built with a modern design and more power, safety and luxury than ever before.

Best in Class Award-Winning Features:
  • Five-year service cost: $3,175
  • One-year insurance cost: $1,489
  • Resale value in 3 years: 62% -- 5 years: 47%
  • 19 city/29 highway mpg*
*EPA-estimated mpg 19 city/29 hwy/22 combined for V-6 Sedan models. Based on 2009 EPA mileage estimates, reflecting new EPA fuel economy methods beginning with 2008 models. Use for comparison purposes only. Do not compare to models before 2008. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.
After a series of exhaustive comparison tests, Car and Driver magazine has named the Honda Accord the Number-One Four-Cylinder Mainstream Sedan. Car and Driver examined a wide array of categories, including powertrain, chassis and driving experience. Here’s a sample of what they had to say: “Honda has simply nailed the econosedan formula, and it isn’t just a matter of building the highest-revving engine, the most competent suspension, and the most ergonomic interior. The trick is getting every component talking openly and honestly to every other component. It’s that sonorous mechanical interplay that lends the Accord its agility and charm.”*

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recognized the Honda Accord Sedan as a 2008 "Top Safety Pick." The award was based on several extensive tests, including a frontal-offset crash test, side crash test and rear-impact test. In addition, each winner was required to have electronic stability control available as either standard equipment or as an option. Active safety systems such as stability control can help drivers avoid collisions altogether. Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), also known as electronic stability control, is standard equipment on the 2008 Honda Accord.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the 2008 Accord Sedan five stars (its highest rating) in driver and front passenger crash tests.† These frontal crash-test ratings are a testament to the advanced safety engineering that comes standard on every Accord.

†Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) New Car Assessment Program.
By definition, a benchmark is the example by which all others should be judged. In the eyes of the editors at Motor Trend, that honor now firmly belongs to the Accord. Put head to head against Toyota Camry, the Accord showed that it simply offered more: “the Accord reigns as the best of the best—the benchmark.” *

*Motor Trend, October 2007
The article’s headline just about says it all: “Test Drive: The Sweet New Accord Does Honda Proud.” In his glowing review, USA Today automotive editor James R. Healey sings Accord’s praises. He notes its larger interior, its refined powertrain and an “uncommon attention to detail.” He notes that “…if you accept that the marketplace is the final judge of an automaker's wisdom, you have had to concede over the years that Honda is among the gifted-and-talented group. The latest Accord feels so good to drive and generally is so nicely furnished that Honda's standing is in no jeopardy.” †

USA Today, August 24, 2007
The keen-eyed experts at AutoWeek found little to criticize when introduced to the all-new Accord. In fact, their reaction was quite the opposite. After a thorough inspection and test drive, they found that “everything about the new model is larger or better, whether you’re looking at overall size and interior volume, power output and fuel economy or the list of standard features.” The attention to detail that went into the building of the Accord got a special nod, as one reviewer noted: “Every fit appears as if some tiny carpet installer got in there with his knee kickers and stretched the material taut around every bend and tight into each corner.”**

**AutoWeek, August 21, 2007
Honda has a long history of environmental leadership, including the introduction of America's first mass produced hybrid, the Honda Insight, and the first vehicle to meet California’s low emission vehicle standards, well in advance of regulatory requirements. Acknowledgement of our commitment to innovation can be seen by Honda’s topping the rankings as the country’s greenest automaker by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS)?for the fourth time in a row.*
