New Honda Civic Sedan in Avondale, AZ
New Honda Civic Sedan Review
From an everyday commute to a racy drive through the mountains, the new Honda Civic Sedan and 2024 Honda Civic Si sedan form a lineup with many choices and price points. How do these small sedans measure up in today’s automotive world?
This review will take a look at the engines and technologies as well as the amenities and design elements that most affect owners.
Performance
With a smart base engine, the affordable Civic sedan balances efficiency and capability. Output is 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to the turbocharged four cylinder powertrain, the Civic driver commands 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.
Common to both engines, the system has idle-stop tech to save gas at redlights and an Econ driving mode to help you save more when it suits the situation.
Civic EX fuel economy is 33/42/36 mpg1 in city-highway-combined driving. Civic Touring models earn 31/38/34 mpg, Civic Sport automatics are rated for 30/37/33 mpg, and LX manual models are rated for 31/40/35 mpg. A Civic Hybrid sedan is expected by 2025.
If you want the speediest of these small Honda cars, you will look to the 2024 Honda Civic Si sedan. Drivers command 200 horsepower thanks to this car’s turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four engine. Torque output is a generous 192 lb-ft.
1: Fuel Economy is based on 2024 EPA ratings. Use for comparison only. Your mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle, driving conditions, and other factors.
Utility
While small sedans aren’t chosen more for their affordability than for their utility, the new Civic still obliges with one of the most generous trunks in the automotive marketplace. It measures 14.8 cubic feet, almost as much as midsize sedan trunks. Plus the way it has been designed allows for easier loading and unloading. Then you can fold the bench to create a large space when you don’t need the back row seats.
Walk Away Locks are a helpful feature with the more advanced Smart Key. Furthermore, a remote starter, always a good idea in this climate, lets you cool the car off before a trip.
Driving enthusiasts like the fact that Civic sedans can be equipped with a manual transmission. That’s getting hard to find these days. With the exciting Civic SI sedan, Honda adds rev-match to help drivers make the best gear-change decisions. This racy edition also has a limited-slip differential and a more athletic suspension.
Interior
The new Civic sedan feels more spacious thanks to the uncluttered interior design and the special shaping of different elements to provide more wiggle room. A generous greenhouse adds to the feeling of openness.
Although the emphasis is on affordability, Honda still offers the amenities that make owners smile. It starts with the available power-adjustable chair and standard touchscreen in the driver’s cockpit. There you will also find USB ports and an available wireless charger.
Comfort features include the standard automatic climate controls, available dual-zone automatic climate controls and power-heated front seats. The front seat passenger can enjoy a 4-way power adjustable seat. On the second row, passengers will find such amenities as USB ports, dedicated air vents, and a soft center armrest.
At its best dressed, the Civic Touring wears leather upholstery and passengers enjoy the surround sound of a Bose 12-speaker system. As the sportiest, the Civic Si sedan has specially bolstered sport chairs, paddle shifters, and aluminum pedals. The Si interior wears subtle red accents and racy red stitching on its premium cloth black upholstery. Technology
This small sedan has forward-thinking technology that won’t go out of style. The 7-inch touchscreen has HondaLink apps. Additional apps can be utilized from your smartphone via Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Drivers can keep their hands on the wheel while staying in touch via SMS text messaging. They can stay focused while the audio system alters the volume control to match a sudden increase or decrease in speed.
HD Radio and satellite navigational tools are part of the bigger touchscreen system on the Civic Touring. Drivers will appreciate the availability of Realtime Traffic to help them avoid slow-downs. Plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless with this system.
Safety
Since a car must protect as well as serve, the new Civic sedan has ten airbags. This means more coverage for the front seat’s vulnerable knees and extra side airbags for the outboard rear passengers. Another class-leading feature on this Honda small sedan is its three-angle rearview camera.
Commuters will appreciate Honda adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist. These features are semi-automated, allowing for slowing and going in busy traffic while the driver steers. There’s even a technology to watch for important traffic signs. Parents will be glad to have a rear seat reminder as well as LATCH attachments for baby seats.
Honda Sensing is quite extensive, covering front and side dangers. The pre-collision system can apply an emergency autobrake in response to a forward collision warning or pedestrian detection. Meanwhile cameras watch the lane lines, warning the driver about the vehicle’s trajectory and assisting with steering if necessary. This system goes even further when the danger is at the road’s edge, assisting with steering and braking.
With the blind spot monitor, Honda adds the convenience of a rear cross traffic alert for reverse maneuvers. Additional safety measures include low-speed braking control, front parking sensors, and rear parking sensors.
You may be seriously shopping or just browsing. Either way you are welcome to schedule a test drive. It’s a lot of fun to get behind the wheel of a new car, and it’s essential research, too. Stop by Earnhardt Honda for a closer look at the new Honda Civic sedan.
