2023 Honda Accord Review / Accord Hybrid Explained
For this model year, the 2023 Honda Accord is a sleeker and larger version of the famous midsize sedan. There’s a renewed emphasis on a fun-to-drive personality even as the driver assistance becomes more sophisticated.
A powertrain upgrade makes the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid even more fun to own. Important to many buyers, the trim level lineup has positioned the hybrid models to capture about 50 percent of sales. This is just part of the electrification of Honda today.
Now in its 11th generation, the Honda Accord is made in America. In fact, these cars have been made in a Marysville, Ohio, factory since 1982. Here’s what you need to know about this brand new model year and the evolution of Honda hybrid technology.
New Build
With the Accord’s new build, structural improvements enhance handling and refinement. The four-wheel independent suspension has been re-tuned. Up front, new suspension parts reduce friction and improve steering.
Curb appeal is better than ever. Motor Trend calls it a mature elegance. The Car Connection declares that the car’s winning design simply gets better. The new hood appears stretched and dips down to the distinctive mesh grille. With the seamless rise from hood to roof, the car takes on a fastback profile. Slim headlights, framed in black, flank the upper grille while available air intakes can flank the long lower grille.
Stretched by 0.4 inches, the rear track is wider for a more planted stance. LED straight-line tail lights add a distinctive light signature. Exterior color choices include new metallics called Meteorite Gray and Canyon River Blue.
Seating, Spaciousness, and Comfort
That refined attitude is notable inside the cabin as well. Even more spacious than before, the look is sporty, modern, and technologically advanced. An open and airy atmosphere is enhanced by big windows and thin pillars.
New front seats are special body-stabilizing chairs that have been developed to reduce fatigue, helping the driver on long trips. Second row passengers will feel more comfortable, too, since they now enjoy 40.8 inches of legroom. There are many SUVs that can’t promise that much rear-seat wiggle room.
A class-leading trunk provides 16.7 cubic feet of space in this midsize sedan. Like the 2022 Honda Accord, the rear seat can split-fold to offer more cargo space.
Turbo Performance and Trim Levels
For the LX and EX owner, Honda updated the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Direct injection and variable valve lift technology were upgraded, making this powertrain an even better alternative to a thirsty V6. A new cold-active catalyst was added. Output is 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.
Noise reduction was accomplished with a high-rigidity crankshaft. New StepShift programming and other changes were made to the continuously variable automatic transmission to make it more responsive and quieter.
The LX trim level wears black or gray upholstery. Cockpits feature a touch screen, digital instrumentation, and three illuminated USB-C ports for your media. Honda engineers angled key knobs and switches toward the driver.
To keep everything functioning, the software can be updated Over the Air. This improves computer modules as upgrades become available. That’s a giant leap forward in keeping your car modern long after it leaves the showroom.
EX models add an 8-way power driver’s seat. This trim level has dual-zone climate controls and extra open air with a moonroof. The front row has heated seats.
Honda Accord Hybrid Performance and Capability
Now standard on four models, hybrid technology has been upgraded for efficiency and power. Drivers will appreciate the command of 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft torque.
The powertrain layout has been changed, and the two electric motors are now mounted next to each other. This arrangement allowed for a larger propulsion motor to fit. A new engine adds the power of direct fuel injection. This 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine is a smart partner in power outlay.
Drivers will find this powertrain is a better partner at highway speeds where response is critical. To give you the feeling of conventional transmission shifting, the hybrid automatic utilizes Linear Shift Control.
Hybrid Trim Levels
Accord Hybrid Sport models have a distinctive black cloth upholstery. Cockpits feature a leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, and aluminum pedals. The top three trims have leather upholstery.
EX-L trims have a 4-way power adjustable passenger chair. Ventilated front seats are definitely a favorite for Phoenix AZ drivers on the Accord Hybrid Touring trim. This upscale Accord sedan has a 12-speaker premium audio system. Bose designed the system with a SurroundStage digital signal processor. Centerpoint tech helps each occupant enjoy a middle-of-the-music feel.
Technology
The biggest news in dash tech is the standard digital instrumentation. This 10.2-inch display has an arched hood to block glare.
This is matched with a bigger 7-inch touchscreen on the LX and EX models. You don’t have to step up to get Android Auto and AppleCarPlay. Both are standards on the Accord. Giving you options, volume and radio tuning can still be controlled by physical knobs.
If you do choose the more advanced touchscreen system, you step up to a 12.3-inch color touch screen with wireless Apple/Android connectivity. Honda cabin designers made sure that there were ergonomic features such as a finger rest for the touchscreen.
Touring trims are the first Hondas to have built-in Google. This feature provides more connectivity via Google Play, Google Maps and Google Assistant. You won’t find this important feature on the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima or any other mainstream sedan. So far it has been limited to luxury brands like Volvo.

Safety
Ready for action, there are new, next-generation airbags. The goal is to provide protection at every point and reduce the chances of traumatic brain and neck injuries. Front seat passengers now have knee airbags, and rear seat passengers gain side-impact bags.
The long list of Honda Sensing systems has grown longer with more standards. The front camera system now has a wider angle of vision, identifying more threats and understanding what it sees with more precision. Radar systems are similarly refined to detect and understand more threats.
Forward collision avoidance is more effective with many aspects, including pedestrian and cyclist watches. Warnings may turn into action with the autobrake feature. New low-speed braking control won’t hesitate to help in tight traffic or parking situations.
Drivers are more likely to avoid side traffic dangers thanks to active lane assist and blind spot monitoring. Traffic jam assist and sign recognition enhance the driving experience, whether human or semi-automated.
