2023 Honda HRV Review

Longer by 9.4 inches and wider by to 2.6 inches, stylish elements add to the feeling of height and width. An expressive grille is set off by an extended hood, air curtains, and wide set headlights. The honeycomb grille wears a matte finish on the L and gloss black on the EX-L. Sport models wear a horizontal grille mesh for a more aggressive look.

A low horizontal beltline adds length. A new technology makes it possible to eliminate roof moldings, creating a sleeker roofline. Wheels are painted silver, gloss Berlina Black, or Shark Gray. EX-L models add gloss black door pillars.

The rear features a tailgate spoiler and a sculpted hatch with wide-set LED tail lights. HRV Sport trims have painted gunmetal metallic lower bumpers. The top model has gloss black trim for the front and rear bumpers.

Honda added some exclusive colors to the Honda HRV 2023 menu. These Pearls include Nordic Forest and Urban Gray. There are seven colors in all, including a racy Milano Red.

With its wider stance and stronger structure, the 2023 Honda HR-V becomes more dynamic. Up front, MacPherson struts are part of a fully independent suspension. The new multilink rear suspension has anti-friction components to make it even more responsive.

Larger, the 2-liter engine is more responsive. Drivers will notice a sporty feel while passengers will be pleased with the improved ride quality. There are more horses under the hood and more torque than the first generation HRV 4 cylinder engine. Output is 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft.

Accurate responses are further improved by the specially honed steering column. Electronics have been tuned to improve straight-line stability.

Honda utilizes a Step-Shift automatic. This continuously variable transmission was reengineered to help the HR-V become faster, more refined and quieter.

HIll Descent Control works with the push of a center console button. This maintains a safe speed, set by the driver, on a slippery downhill road. There are new, larger brakes to provide a faster stop. Part of the update includes special low-drag calipers that actually improve fuel efficiency.

Front wheel drive is standard, and AWD is offered. Real Time all-wheel drive reacts when needed. This Intelligent Control utilizes more electronic sensors for fast reactions only when needed. A new Snow mode assists with traction in slick conditions.

Interior design emphasizes form and function to deliver an uncluttered look. The dashboard wears a special metal honeycomb mesh accent. This stretches from door to door, and it provides a dividing line between the upper and lower dash elements.

Using a flow-through design, the air vents are concealed, adding to the tidy look. Designers reduced windshield reflections by minimizing cutlines. A wavy pattern adds visual interest to the lower doors. This visual technique helps reduce the look of little scuffs and imperfections due to use.

Higher quality materials are used throughout the cabin to create a premium look. A curvy center console is decorated with a French stitched accent. Second-row passengers will appreciate a rear smartphone tray.

Raising its profile with driving enthusiasts, the small SUV has digital instruments on a display behind the steering wheel. An analog speedometer is complemented by a digital speedometer, digital tachometer and driver display screen.

HR-V Sport owners gain automatic climate controls, heated front seats, and a remote starter. Keyless entry is upgraded to Smart Entry, push button start, and walk away auto locks.

Stepping up to the EX-L, there’s more luxury, more comfort and more connectivity. A handsome leather upholstery covers both rows. Cabins have a moonroof and a driver’s power chair.

There’s an upgraded audio system with more wattage and more speakers. Climate controls add dual-zone automatic capability.

With the larger 9-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are wireless. Drivers will appreciate the physical volume knob, simplified menus and better icons. There’s even a place to rest your finger when using the touchscreen.

More spacious as well as more upscale, the cabin has more wiggle room for everyone. An expansive greenhouse provides better visibility plus it helps add to the roomy atmosphere.

The front row occupants have body stabilizing seats. These are designed to enhance comfort and reduce fatigue. Wider, the second-row bench is also more comfortable for passengers. Improved dimensions mean more rear legroom.

In the cargo area, a special wavy pattern is used to minimize the look of scratches or scuffs. The new hold measures 24.4 cubic feet. It’s easy to load thanks to a 27-inch lift-over height.

For more space, the second row seats fold to create a larger flat floor. That increases cargo space to 55 cubic feet.

Critical safety features have been upgraded. There are more airbags, and all have the newest Honda design. A new ACE protective structure was developed along with the revised build.

Plus, there are improved driver assistance systems. A front wide-view camera has been added to the Honda Sensing system. This provides a 100-degree unobstructed view that doubles the previous system’s visual scope. It is capable of recognizing other vehicles, white lines, curbs, and people on foot or bikes.

The system has been expanded to include road sign recognition and traffic jam assist technologies. Adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance are made more natural by the upgrades.

New standards include the improved blind spot monitoring system, a driver attention monitor, and a rear seat reminder. A new EX-L standard, Low-Speed Braking Control includes front and rear sonar sensors on the bumpers. The emergency autobrake response includes false-start prevention.
