Performance and Efficiency: A Tale of Different Drivetrains
A leading midsize sedan for decades, the Accord has made a name for itself with front-wheel-drive efficiency and performance. There has been an intense focus on efficiency, long driving ranges, and smart handling.
Of course, the Legacy has its Boxer engine and all-wheel drivetrain, but in our Arizona desert climate, all-wheel drive isn’t a necessity. In fact, AWD always lags behind FWD in terms of fuel efficiency. According to EPA estimates, the Accord can earn 29 mpg city and 37 mpg highway while the Legacy drops those numbers to 27 mpg city/35 mpg highway.
The more powerful turbo Legacy is rated at 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg highway, dropping it from 30 combined to 26 mpg combined.
Meanwhile the Accord Hybrid goes the other direction. It raises the EPA estimates to either 51/44 mpg or 47 mpg/41 mpg. So while the Legacy turbo can go for only 481 miles in driving range, the Accord Hybrid can achieve as much as 614 miles driving range
Hybrid fuel costs are estimated at $1000 or $1,100 per year while Subaru turbo costs are estimated at $1,850 a year. (Source: fueleconomy.gov.)

Size and Comfort
The 2025 Subaru Legacy and Honda Accord claim truly large cabins for the midsize class. Both lose a few cubic feet when a moonroof is added. However, the Accord always stays just a little bit ahead of the Legacy in this important numbers game.
These differences are most significant when you look at Honda’s rear legroom. It is rated 40.8 inches, compared to 39.5 inches in the Legacy.
Furthermore, the Legacy’s 15.1-cu ft trunk is eclipsed by the 16.7 cu ft trunk in the 2025 Honda Accord. So if you like to travel, you’ll appreciate the way the Accord swallows up your gear and luggage.

Dash Technology
Both models offer a spacious interior, versatile cargo space, and essential technology features as standard. However, the Accord has more amenities whether it is better power-adjustable front seats or the available wireless charger. Plus it is the one of the two that has a head-up display.
The Accord’s user-friendly technology includes a new state-of-the-art infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even better, Google Built-In is an Accord Touring standard. This allows owners access to a Google Assistant, Google Play, and Google Maps.
Subaru Starlink has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a 7-inch touchscreen. Honda’s standard screen is bigger than the Legacy’s screen, and the available touchscreen is an expansive 12.3 inches. This can make it easier to see and interact with certain features, especially navigation.

Driver Assistance Comparison
Safety today goes beyond protection. Shoppers can expect help to avoid crash scenarios.
Toward this end, Subaru EyeSight standard features on the Legacy include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure, Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Lead Vehicle Alert.
The Honda Accord, however, has more standard safety features. This includes Road Departure Mitigation, Traffic Jam Assist and a Driver Attention Monitor. Another standard is Traffic Sign Recognition to ensure that drivers are aware of speed limit changes and other important road messages.

Conclusion: Choosing the Right Sedan for You
While the 2025 Subaru Legacy is a well-rounded sedan, it falls short compared to the Honda Accord.
The Honda midsize sedan has a well-established reputation as a segment leader. The new model year ensures that it has the performance, efficiency, technology, and amenities to continue that leadership.
Of course, the best research is always hands-on. We recommend taking a test drive to discover if the Honda Accord is right for you. Schedule now.REVIEWS
