2026 Honda CR-V Review : Trailsport is Here!
There’s a lot of excitement around the 2026 Honda CR-V. A new Trailsport trim offers to take you on adventures. Favorite systems have gone wireless, and a Google assistant offers to handle your requests.
Here’s what you need to know about this exciting update to the country’s favorite family SUV.
Technology Takes Charge
A new 9-inch high definition touchscreen replaces the current 7-inch screen on lower trims. This upgrade for all trims makes it easier to see the screen and easier to use its many features.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have gone wireless across the trim levels. So you won’t need to plug in your phone to get connected to the intelligent infotainment system.
The EX-L dash gauges and MID screen are updated with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. This turns the driver’s area into a true cockpit. A wireless charger is standard on two trims with the introduction of the Trailsport.
Google built-in technology is an exciting feature on the Sport Touring trim. Drivers can use the Google Assistant to interact with car systems and features. You also have access to Google Play Store apps that can be downloaded to the dash system.
New CR-V TrailSport Hybrid Trim
Making its debut, the 2026 CR-V Trailsport has the more powerful hybrid powertrain and standard all-wheel drive. From exclusive Ash Green Metallic paint to a taller stance, rugged styling and capability have found the perfect home in Honda’s popular compact SUV.
CR-V Trailsports stand tall on Continental CrossContact ATR all-terrain tires. These allow for light trail use, improving traction for dirt and mud. These playful exteriors are marked by special 18-inch wheels, TrailSport badging, and special silver accents.
The sporty look carries over to the cabin. Orange stitching spruces up the upholstery. At night, amber lighting establishes the atmosphere. Heated front seats are paired up with a heated steering wheel. If your shoes get dirty on your adventures, you’ve got washable rubber floor mats underfoot.
Enhanced Traction and Drive Modes
CR-V Trailsport models take advantage of a new system common to all CR-V models. This new traction management capability watches for low-grip situations and acts faster to improve wheel slip.
As before, hill descent control is offered to reduce strain on the CR-V’s transmission and brakes. A snow driving mode is another helpful feature that is available with all-wheel drive.
As Edmunds reports in its First Look review, Honda CR-Vs are manufactured in Ohio and Indiana. The hybrid powertrain is also assembled in Ohio, and the related engine components are made in the U.S. too.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2026 CR-V retains the same powertrain options as the previous model year. The gasoline version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.
Available in front- or all-wheel drive, this engine is standard on the LX, EX and EX-L trims. Owners appreciate the remarkable fuel efficiency. Front-wheel drive models earn 34 mpg on the highway and a combined rate of 30 mpg. All-wheel drive models earn 32 mpg on the highway and a combined rate of 29 mpg.
Standard on the Sport, Sport-L, Trailsport, and Sport Touring, the hybrid powertrain increases output to 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. Honda engineers pair two electric motors with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine to achieve a balance of power and efficiency.
Sport-L and Sport Touring models earn up to 43 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. However, the TrailSport has slightly reduced efficiency due to its all-terrain tires.
Styling and Minor Updates
Graduating from six trim levels to seven, Honda designers have more room for playful attributes. Subtle styling updates ensure that the familiar look is maintained. However unique paint and accents set the new TrailSport apart. New wheel designs and LED lighting add more fun and functionality.
This is refinement rather than a complete redesign, and that’s logical when a model is so well received by critics and consumers alike. After all, the CR-V is -- as Cars.com puts it -- a sales superstar.
Car and Driver has awarded the 2023, 2024 and 2025 models with its Editors’ Choice Award, and its critics seem excited about the new Trailsport CR-V. Consumers seem to agree. Over 300 million CR-Vs have been made and sold in the United States since 2006.
