Do not panic. It is important not to panic when the low fuel light comes to life in your Honda. With the help of your Honda owner’s manual, the calculator on your phone and some quick math, you can estimate how much farther you can drive when you are empty. Follow the steps below to help you determine how far you can drive when your fuel gauge hits empty. To ensure you do not run into trouble down the road, it is important to stop for fuel as soon as possible.

  1. Read your 2020 Honda CR-V owner’s manual to determine the size of your fuel tank and understand your average fuel consumption in specific driving scenarios. The front-wheel drive 2020 Honda CR-V EPA-estimated fuel-economy ratings – 28 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg combined* – are a good place to start for families on the go. Note: Fuel consumption and individual fuel economy will vary from driver to driver.
  2. When the low gas light comes on, the general estimate is that you have 10 to 15 percent of your total fuel capacity left. The 2020 Honda CR-V is equipped with a 14-gallon fuel tank. To help determine how much fuel you have left, drivers of the Honda CR-V can take 10 percent of 14 gallons – 14 x .10 = 1.4 gallons – to find a conservative fuel capacity estimate.
  3. To calculate an estimated driving distance in the 2020 Honda CR-V, you can take the estimated 1.4 gallons of fuel that you have left and multiply by the mpg rating that best fits the type of driving you are doing. Families on a road trip in the 2020 Honda CR-V may want to use the EPA-estimated highway fuel-economy rating and multiply 1.4 gallons by 34 mpg. This gives you an estimated 47.6 miles of remaining driving distance on the highway.
